Cold weather? Try this super effective triple threat from Dermalogica
June 21, 2016
Having freshly arrived in the UK one of the first things I noticed how my skin is absolutely loving the weather but how a little bit more harsh the water is from what my skin is used to. In saying this I came fully prepared, actually anticipating that the colder air would dry my skin out slightly when it’s actually the water, but no harm done right? Apart from cleansing and treating I wanted to focus on moisture and hydration in this feature because as you know dehydration and dryness make you look aged and like you might need a few discreet little procedures done at only thirty. The following was chosen specifically for my needs as a day time moisturizer and night time repair option, with an added eye fix.
DERMALOGICA SKIN SMOOTHING CREAM – Initially when I tried this out years ago I remember being super suspicious of the ‘skin smoothing’ claim but hey, this little wonder cream made me eat my words more than once. Aimed specifically at drier skins (which I anticipated mine to be with the climate change) it rebalances combination to dry skins quite successfully. The medium weight consistency absorbs nicely but does leave a very slight protective film on the skin. I prefer this because it ensures skin comfort throughout the day. In colder climates and winter it has no negative effect on the longevity of your makeup application so not to worry, your foundation is not going anywhere. Grape seed extract along with vitamin C and E offers anti oxidant protection against environmental aggressors while Lecithin and Aloe Gel nourish the skin. Arnica, Cucumber and Mallow extract soothe and hydrate. The formula really does have a smoothing effect on the skin, my guess is due to the fact that skin is optimally hydrated.
DERMALOGICA SUPER RICH REPAIR – I chose this massively effective cream as my night time option. With it’s super rich cream formula it completely recovers chronically dry skin, hydrates it to the max and replenishes critically low moisture levels. The powerful peptides the cream contains will boost collagen production while your skin is toned and firmed up with a non-chemical smoothing action. This is the perfect protective shield to use against harsh environmental conditions. I like using it at night because since skin is at it’s most active between 11pm and 4am (it’s natural renewal process occurs then), this cream is perfectly ‘utilized’ by my skin then. Because of it’s heavy consistency it is also not the best option for makeup wearers because it may make makeup move during the day, hence my preference for it’s night time use.
DERMALOGICA AGE REVERSAL EYE COMPLEX – This has to be one of my favorite eye products ever. I’m one of those who firmly believe in eye cream morning, noon and night if I can possibly manage it (okay not noon too, but you get the idea). The sensitive skin around the eye area, hands and the neck are the first places people can judge your age quite accurately and apart from that, makeup around the eye is a mess if your eye area look dehydrated and line riddled. This specific eye formula is so light and unobtrusive I very happily use it at night as well as in the mornings before applying eye makeup. It is perfectly safe to use if you have a sensitive skin, hydrates the eye area as well as prevents premature signs of aging. I personally believe hydrated skin is happy skin – enough hydration and moisture ‘blows’ the skin up from the inside out to make it look plump, firmer, toned and glowing with health and youthfulness. Retinol, tissue regenerating peptides as well as vitamin C strengthens skin enough to fight fine lines and wrinkles from formulating which in turn makes you look haggardly old. Oat proteins help keep the skin firm and the exclusive Dermalogica UGL complex will retexturize the skin around the eye to smoothen it out.
What I love about the above three products (and about all the Dermalogica products if I remember correctly) is that they are all free from artificial colorants and fragrances which make them safe to use if your skin is sensitive and prone to inflammation or irritation. If you ask me, absolute necessities this winter or in colder climates if you ask me.
