It’s a masky business

Who doesn’t love a good mask? Masks are one of the hardest working products that has to deliver instant results or let’s face it, they’ll land up in drawer 54. I get super excited every time I have to review a mask because I just love instant results. What I love even more is a multi action mask or one you don’t have to rinse off, because that means it goes beyond what it promises and keeps on working, depending on the type. Masks are so important to supplement your skin care routine and there are so many out there for your specific skin needs, you only need to do a little research. I’ve had three masks I tried recently that I really liked, so I thought I’d share.
CIPRIA MILANO ALL IN ONE INTENSIVE HAIR MASK – This mask is a no-rinse mask for your hair that contains great amounts of shea butter and keratin. With a list of benefits as long as my arm, this mask regenerates hair, works great at eliminating frizz, adds softness, detangles, acts as a heat protector, keeps hair set in it’s style, stops split ends from forming, nourishes color treated/bleached hair, makes combing out easier and breathes new life into hair. The spray formula applies and spreads easily onto freshly washed hair and does not make it sticky – one of those star products that does not need to be rinsed out and keeps on working. I like that it has a heat protection factor which means to me that apart from protecting against heat styling, the formula will also offer a degree of protection when you’re out in the sun. I applied it mid length to ends and I really liked the feel of it on my hair. My hair is thick and damaged, so it sucked the product up to leave it nice and soft. The soft fruity scent is just an added bonus!
DERMALOGICA CHARCOAL RESCUE MASK – Launching on 1 April, this mask blew our minds away when we were introduced to it at the launch. It detoxifies, brightens and invigorates aging skin, sensitive skins and even eczematic skins. The anti inflammatory (with sulfur) properties, chemical exfoliating action and attention to aging skin and breakouts make this new mask such a great all rounder, you’ll definitely want it in your arsenal. I apply the dark grey formula to a dry skin, leave it to dry for about ten minutes, dampen my fingers and exfoliate it off and rinsing. Although it does leave a slightly tight feeling after, my skin felt completely revived and super clean. A dash of serum and moisturizer fixed the tad of tightness up quickly though. I really thought my skin looked less dull and smooth after only one use. You can use it up to four times a week, but my skin is happy with once or twice weekly. I also found it calms redness (with niacinamide), reduces pore size (with wild mint from Chile), draws impurities out from deep within the skin and improves overall texture (with volcanic ash, marine mud and bamboo stem extract). Look out for this guaranteed-to-be-favorite on shelf from April.
OFRA SOFT PEARL PEEL – I was super impressed by this gently exfoliating cream. The gorgeous pearl look got me from the start – call me a magpie I don’t care. It can be applied to a wet or dry face but I like applying a mask to a dry skin so I can damply exfoliate after it sets. The formula is a soft as silk cream that can be used on sensitive skin too and it leaves my skin super soft, intensely purified and with a nice new glow every time. The efficacy can be seen in the banishing of blackheads and the removal of dead skin cells and use over a longer period will systematically reduce pigmentation. Since this peel can be used as a mask too, you are also welcome to use a hydrating mask afterwards for added benefit, although I was completely happy with it on it’s own. Such an amazing mask to use about two to three times a week, I’ll be super upset when I finish my pot – I’m half way already!
