Fragrance Friday: Classy new scents
September 11, 2015
Since the launch of exciting new fragrances for the season are abundant, I decided to do some ‘Fragrance Friday’ posts that started last Friday as you may have noticed. The art of fine fragrance seem to reach new heights with every new season and I’m always delighted to test them out and let you know what I think. These three new scents are each so different and unique, I decided to pair them together for this feature.
YSL SUPREME BOUQUET from their ORIENTAL COLLECTION – At the launch event I must say, I was quite impressed with this collection. This is a refined collection of fragrances of which there are four – Supreme Bouquet, Majestic Rose, Noble Leather and Splendid Wood. Having such an infinity for the East, Yves St Laurent draws beautiful inspiration for these four magnificent fragrances, each with their own special character. It celebrates the infinite opulence of a land filled with mystery and refinement. The bottles strengthen the aura of a majestic palace with it’s angular sides, reflective gold, latticed engravings and solid dark cap. I received the Supreme Bouquet fragrance and it resonates with me perfectly. It is a enthralling scent with an almost serene feel about it. Top notes of bergamot, pink pepper and pear start the juice off in a lightly spicy and juicy way. Heart notes of sambac jasmine, tuberose and ylang ylang give it the perfect floral heart that evokes a deep sensuality while base notes of patchouli, ambery woods and musks ground it in a way that gives it that mysterious eastern but totally wearable feel. The wearability is more effortless than you’d expect from a fragrance with such eastern inspiration and I found because of this the smell lasts the whole day.
GUCCI BAMBOO – This confident and feminine new fragrance from Gucci is definitely intended more for daytime wear I think. It is light, multi faceted, intense, yet graceful and gentle at the same time. I love that the bottle and silver cap symbolizes so strongly with the name Bamboo and it’s simply beautiful to look at, housing the soft pink fragrance inside. The silver cap is shaped in the form of a bamboo branch symbolizes strength and the softly faceted cut of the bottle epitomizes the multiple sides of femininity. Bamboo is a strong substance and stays that way in the most extreme conditions – I think it’s the perfect inspiration for today’s woman – soft yet strong. The journey starts off in citrussy bergamot that leads to floral heart of ylang ylang, casablanca lily and orange blossom. Interesting base notes of sandalwood, tahitian vanilla and amber bind all these notes together perfectly to produce a delightful new addition to the exclusive Gucci range.
D&G LIGHT BLUE SUNSET IN SALINA – All the fans of Dolce & Gabanna’s D&G Light Blue will not be disappointed with this new offering. This is pure sunset bliss. Imagine a glass of wine on a freesia surrounded terrace watching the sunset – this is the image this floral scent portrays. Top notes of fresh vine and violet leaves lead through to heart notes of yellow freesia, orange blossom and jasmine – you can only imagine how these scents infuse the air on a warm summer evening. Base notes of amber, cedar and white musk keep it light but still warms the fragrance up, also giving it a tinge of spice. I must say I have always been a fan of Light Blue which I love wearing during the day in summer because it’s so fresh and invigorating. Sunset in Salina is the perfect change-over to night time wear and I found the notes distinguishing themselves more the longer the fragrance stays on. I definitely smell the freesia which I absolutely love. An absolutely perfect launch for this spring.
